Beautiful peaceful surroundings. Wonderful food and excellent wine cellar. Unobtrusive but helpful staff especially Jordi who was a fantastic and laid back host. Feel refreshed and recharged after my stay. Perfect location for exploring the local cava and beaches. Highly recommend

Not quite a "Castle" but a wonderful large old farm house with a generous host- be sure to eat there

The atmosphere was relaxed and the owner very friendly. One felt like a visiting relative. Our room was quite large and very comfortable. The old house shows is age but that adds to its charm. We arrived too late for a wine tour but Jordie recommended a nice hour long walk through the vineyards and trees towards a neighboring town. Dinner was our best on the trip with many choices and reasonably priced. The local wines are quite nice.

A bit hard to find (the sign at the road was down) but I recognized the house from the on-line photos.

Amazing host and meal with local products

The place is really great, you can feel the history and the hard work the owners put into it. It is very quiet and relaxing, there is also a few animals, which I loved. The room was nice and spacious, great shower too! The best of the entire was definitely the host and the meal we had! Jordi is a great smiley host, he answered many of our questions and you can tell that he is super passionate about the culture of his region. We learned a lot and also got to bring some local products home that we could buy from the hotel. The meal was just great, we loved everything Jordi cooked for us and it is great value for money. Definitely go there is you are looking for a relaxing time packed with culture and local goodies!

What could be improved could maybe be some more options for breakfast but the meat eaters among us were delighted :) I would also add that better pillows would be great but again, this definitely didn't have a big impact on our stay, just recommendation for the owner!

Great place for a time out and full relax. Loved the location. Loved the owners and personnel who were all very friendly and helpful. They made you feel at home straight away! Loved the dogs and cats who were just as relaxed and friendly!

Nothing to comment. I could say WiFi which they do not have but I did not miss it a minute as we really relaxed.

Superb overnight stay in this wonderful old establishment

I was on my way down from Germany to South East Spain recently and I booked a night at this wonderful gem of a place in the Penedes area of Catalonia. It's not so far off the main AP 7 motorway, perched up on a little hill amongst the vineyards with distant view out to the Med. There is sufficient free parking just outside this restored establishment and the "reception" area already gives a fantastic feel for the historical character of this place. My dog and I were both warmly welcomed and shown to our suite on the ground floor. The centre piece in the room was the large king sized four poster bed. Lovely. Other features included an en suite bathroom with all the usual mod cons. T It being late afternoon I enjoyed a quick, chilled beer in the terraced courtyard & then took the chance to walk my dog around the nearby vineyards. I also took my evening dinner out on the courtyard. There is a set menu which is described to you - no paperwork here... I had a goats sheep salad followed by a superbly cooked piece of white cod. I then asked if I could have a cheese board which was lovely followed by the house dessert. The house red wine, served in small open bottles, was delicious. I managed two bottles without too many difficulties. After a good nights sleep I also took breakfast on the terrace (included in the price). This was a simple affair based on locally produced cut meats and bread/home made jams. The marmalade was full of chunky pieces of orange peel. Delicious. After a quick walk around the surrounding area both my dog and I were refreshed and ready to continue our long journey. Thoroughly recommended!

There was no television in my room and the WiFi was a bit hit and miss but that didn't bother me at all. The lack of air conditioning was made up for a couple of powerful (and noisy) fans which did their job.

Exceptional

This was our first visit to Castell de Gimenelles and is now one of the favourite places we have stayed at. We loved the exceptionally quiet, rural, location and the décor in the hotel (so much time and passion has been put into it!). Our room was spacious and bright, plenty of hot water. We paid 26 euros each to have the 3 course dinner one night, which included wine and water. Jordi, the chef/owner offered 3 choices for starter and main course and the food was excellent! Jordi was very friendly, as was his wife, who we met at breakfasts. The pool is small (we were aware of this at the time of booking), but we made good use of it and also appreciated being able to find shade around the pool. Breakfast was very enjoyable - especially the freshly squeezed orange juice, and the tomato bread with good amount of cheese and meats. We asked Jordi about walks in the area and he recommended two to us - these we did, and though they were mostly along roads (but virtually no traffic at all!), they gave us good views of the countryside.

We would like the possibility to be able to make tea and coffee in our room.

What was the highlight of Mas Castell de Gimenelles

A lovely old building, in a fascinating area with charming, helpful owners

Situated in a quiet, rural setting amongst vineyards, this hotel is peaceful and there are pleasant walks from the hotel. The conversion of the old building has faithfully preserved original features, to some extent at the expense of comfort.. Dinner in the restaurant is well worth it: local food, excellent value, cheerfully prepared and served by the owner. Breakfast, too, was regional in character and delicious. I wish we could have stayed longer than one night - it is a lovely area and we would love to return. The couple who owned it were absolutely charming, and very helpful in every way.

Our bedroom (the cellar) was a little austere, but charming nevertheless!

Location with history, great accommodation and fantastic host

Everything! Jordi was a most welcoming host with oodles of information about the history of the premises (one of the reasons we chose the location). Our room (and the rest of the premises) were spotlessly clean. Bed was large and very comfortable. WiFi a bit hit and miss due to the old buildind (thick walls) but easily overcome. Jordi is a chef and the evening meal was really interesting, fresh and most enjoyable. Excellent value and would definately return some day.

Slightly difficult to find, lack of signage. Approach road a bit unkempt so we arrived with some trepidation.

Fantastic setting in the middle of the countryside.

Fantastic setting in the middle of the countryside. The family who own it are absolutely lovely, and incredible cooks (you can have dinner there, we had it outside and it was just dreamy). You need a car to get there, but it's very easy to find, the castle is so well kept and the pool part is very comfortable. The surroundings are just amazing. Breakfast is so nice, homemade jam and muffins and lots of cold meat and cheese, great coffee too.

If I have to say something wrong, perhaps the bathroom mat could have been changed cause it was wet.
